Grateful takes a break, but I (fortunately) do not... this heading makes perfect sense when you are drugged up to the high-balls

No lovely picture for you as I can't work out how to blog a picture from my iPad.

I had a slippery-dippery fall down many steps on Tuesday afternoon after tripping over my own klutzy feet. There was an ambulance trip also involved.

So, here I am. Laid up in bed, creeping slowly, ever so slowly, around trying to find a pain-free position, feeling sorry for myself and reading and reading and moaning courageously. My eyes hurt, but not as much as my poor, miserable, fucking agonising back.

I feel like I will never be pain-free again. I will settle for vaguely comfortable at this stage... one day? Dear god, one day soon?

Prone to melodrama. I should have added that to my "I am" post!

Anyway, there will be no Grateful linky this week at Kidspot or here. Not that I am not eternally grateful that it was my back that slammed down and not my head. I believe I should also be extremely grateful that my back is, er, well-padded. Apparently my hearty buttocks provided a much needed cushioning effect and hence I walk.

Man!

I'll be back soonest and in the meantime, check out the new little Village Voices widget in my sidebar. It will flash with new posts I write over there. If I ever write again (see above: melodrama). I urge you to check out VV, mostly because there is some really awesome blogging talent writing really awesome stuff, and partly because I am the new Village Voices editor... Yes! Yes!! YES!!! Of course, this was made official on Tuesday morning and by Tuesday afternoon I was phoning in broken... I hope they'll still want me!?

Now, I ramble. It's the drugs I tell you, the drugs!!!

Just promise me you will always remember to wash your hair the second it needs washing, to keep your legs smooth even in winter, and to not skip out on your weekly pedi.

'Cos you just never know.

I have fallen down steps in the wet & I know EXACTLY how you feel. Doing the broken knee thing on another slippery floor when 36 weeks pregnant was also another totally stellar time. You have my big time empathy is what I'm saying. And super big congrats on the new role. You'll rock it. Rest well!!! Xxx

Oooh there's a lot of information here.... that is TERRIBLE about your fall! Stoopid freak accidents. But hey, you are spot on about the hair-washing thing. I caught a sudden (as if they're ever anything else) bout of gastro earlier this week and from the first "moment" wished I had clean shiny un-sick hair to go with my less than clean not-so-shiny very sick self.
Congrats on your Editorial post too at VV! Now, rest up xxx

Hope you're better soon. I hurt my back recently and finally followed the advice to use ice packs which fixed it! But yours sounds more like a bruise. Poor thing :-(
Great news about your new gig, congratulations you!

georgi said...

you poor thing. having had second-hand experience (my mum put her back out a few times, where she couldn't walk on it) - try heat on it, and try as much as you can to keep moving - take painkillers and then keep the muscles moving .. otherwise when it's fixed you'll move on to feeling stiff and still sore. hope it's all better soon xxx

ps. not even the thought of someone seeing my winter hairy legs will cause me to shave them!!

Vicky said...

recovering from prominent bulging disc here. Week 3. Have spent most of that flat on my back with a heat pack, and moving very very slowly otherwise. physio helps, doing it painkiller free, other then nurofen plus. don't want to get on the oxycontin train. Have come to the conclusion that it was the universe telling me to slow the f@ck down. Maybe the universe is telling you too?

Honestly though Bron, do as little as possible. Rest, heat, physio - acupuncture is working wonders here - that's of course if you are experiencing a similar injury.

thank god for ipads and laptops. because that's all I have been doing. Have you got a book that you have been dying to write?

Above all, LISTEN to your body. I know I NEVER want to feel pain like I have ever again!

oh - and congrats on the editing gig. x

Bad backs just suck and I hope yours heals soon and completely.

ClaireyHewitt said...

Bad backs are not good. Remember not to keep too still for too long though...the stiffness is just as bad, but the relief of a hot shower can be so nice.

I fell down the stairs once in front of the tradesman delivering our new couch, embarrassing for both of us, the bruises were horrible, the pain, even worse.

Happy mending Ms Editor.

And try blogpress for photos, email them to yourself, save the image and pop it in.
